NewBay's mobile video server gives mobile operators enhanced features and functionality to support user generated mobile video content. The mobile video server offers carrier grade performance and supports all common types of web and mobile video uploads, downloads and viewing. The server is available as a standalone system or as an enhancement to NewBay's complete portfolio of products and services.

NewBay's mobile video server offers a range of cool features:
  • Allows users to upload videos in any format to their blog or album direct from the handset (MMS, email, http, PIXOTA client) or via the web.
  • Automatically transcodes the video into the best format for viewing via the web (.flv) or mobile (.3gp). For example, a user can upload video in Quicktime or Flash over the web to their online album. If they wish to download it for viewing on their handset, NewBay's mobile video server will automatically transcode it to the mobile friendly format to guarantee a positive user experience.
  • Mobile video server works with NewBay's flash video player to enable viewing directly on a webpage, eliminating the need to launch a 3rd party video player.
  • Ensures all video types are transcoded to the best format for the viewing device including iPods or PSPs.
  • Generates a thumbnail of the video which is used as a preview and is displayed on web and mobile before the user initiates video playback or download.
  • Offers special video effects and the option to turn still photos into video.

How Mobile Video Server Works
  • Mobile video messages can be sent via MMS, Email, WAP or NewBay's PIXOTA client via the following protocols:
    • MM7
    • HTTP
    • MM3
    • EAIF
  • The video content is queued using NewBay's JSM (Java Message Service) module.
  • Mobile Video Server pulls the content from the JMS queue for processing to begin. MVS can be configured to throttle traffic in order to process content at a thru-put which is suitable to the hardware MVS is running on.
  • MVS can be configured to transcode into multiple formats, its default formats being .flv (Flash Video) for delivery to Web and .3gp for delivery to mobile handset.
  • MVS also generates a thumbnail in jpg format as a preview for video before download.
  • All transcoded video and images are stored locally or sent to SAN or NAS.
