Description
NewBay Software requires an experienced computer engineer with a Unix System’s administrator background to join our Deployment team. The role will specialise in the setup, installation and integration of NewBay’s software into both hosted and customer site environments. The role may include an element of being on call, approximately 1 week in 5, to cover launch support for our 24x7 customers worldwide.

Description

• You will be required to provide technical input on design related issues at the outset of a project. You will make use of your previous experience to support NewBay in designing new solutions and in refining the delivery of existing or previously delivered services
• You will be required to develop an understanding of the solution that is being provided to NewBay's customers at both hardware and software levels
• You will be responsible for the complete deployment and integration of the project solution. This can include all activities such as; environment setup, service installation, service integration, troubleshooting, issue logging and tracking, reporting to your project peers on project status and direct customer interaction.  
• You may also be required to act as a technical prime for the project you are involved with.
• Analyzing and improving deployment processes and systems.
• Collecting and communicating information to NewBay Engineering, Operations, customers and/or external 3rd party suppliers.
• Working with external software and hardware vendors.
• Assisting the customer in on site acceptance testing.
• Follow Newbay Delivery methodology including Gating and Handover to Operations
• You will represent NewBay in a positive and professional manner, addressing concerns and issues raised by NewBay’s customer in a timely and responsible fashion. You will be required to communicate effectively with your project peers and be capable

Responsibilities

• Linux (Redhat preferred) Solaris 9, 10
• Oracle / MySQL Databases
• TCP/IP Networking (routing, switching and load balancing concepts)
• Cisco
• Scripting (Awk, Shell, Perl)
• System hardware knowledge including concepts of clustering, failover, backup
• Experience with Java web application running in Tomcat / Apache
• Technical Documentation
• Troubleshooting

Requirements
3-5 years of overall experience and 2-3 years experience in installing and maintaining mission critical 24x7 production, in a UNIX based, environment, Solaris or Linux.

• SNMP, SMPP, MM3, MM7, SOAP/XML, NAT/SNAT, Python, Cacti, Nagios, HTTPS/SSL
• Experience with high availability systems
• F5 Big IP, F5 3DNS, Foundry ServerIron XL
• Layer4-7 load balancing
