Description
The successful applicant for this role in NewBay Software will drive the user interface development across all NewBay handset products. Reporting to Product Management, this role will work closely with the Product Manager for each product to ensure a sample user interface of the respective product is demonstrable on its own and with other products showcasing the product's features to maximum effect.
This role will drive high UI standards within NewBay and may engage with current and potential customers, as well as 3rd parties, to convey NewBay's excellence in the areas of user interaction, usability and interface development.
The applicant is fanatical about creating compelling user experiences and will strive to push NewBay's product vision to its limit by exposing existing features and by innovating & prototyping potential new features.
Responsibilities
- Liaise with Product Management to create cutting edge sample user interfaces for NewBay products across multiple clients.
- Liaise with Product Management to expose product features to their maximum potential.
- Liaise with customers and design agencies to convey NewBay UI philosophies.
- Must be wildly creative and obsessively meticulous.
- Must understand user behaviour as it relates to design.
- Superb information design abilities, data-flow design, fastidious and efficient production and optimization habits, and impeccable problem solving skills.
- Prototype features and interactions, using paper-prototyping, flash prototypes, and wireframes.
- Must be self-motivated, good communicator, comfortable with following direction, thrive on multidisciplinary teams, and able to balance great design implementation with meeting short deadlines.
- Effectively communicate conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale both verbally and visually, to clients, agencies and internal teams.
Requirements
- 3 years plus experience designing and developing mobile applications with rich user interfaces on a variety of technology platforms.
- Experience translating requirements into cross-device applications.
- Experience with dealing with structured data formats (arrays, objects) represented using a mark-up language (like XML).
- Knowledge of architecting and building mobile applications.
- In depth working knowledge of capabilities and limitations of mobile technologies such as J2ME, Android, Symbian, Brew etc.
- Knowledge of web and widget standards, principles and practices.
- Knowledge of user interface design processes and methodology, particularly as applied to mobile applications.
- Understand the intricacies and insanities of cross-device development.
- Must be able to function as a leader as well as an individual contributor.
- Great agility with the creative and technical tools of design.
- Excellent communication skills and organization skills.
- A passion for creating products that resonate emotionally with people.
Desirable
- Flash development capability an advantage
- Adobe CS3 experience an advantage
